The workforce with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in our country has rapidly increased in recent years, leading to a significant proportion of them being unable to find jobs. Therefore, the training quality and the demand for the workforce are now the targets that the Faculty of Oriental Studies is aiming for.Oriental Area, the root of an array of human cultures and civilizations, contains many interesting mysteries. The knowledge system of history, geology, economy, politics, diplomacy, and language are the methods to discover the features of this area's culture. Nowadays, due to the high requirement for human resources, graduates from the Faculty of Oriental Studies have a variety of opportunities to secure good and specialized job positions.
Training Towards Regional Studies
The Faculty of Oriental Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities offers a comprehensive training program across multiple academic levels, with a strong emphasis on regional studies.
* Undergraduate Programs: The Faculty offers four major undergraduate programs: 1. Southeast Asia Studies 2. Oriental Studies (comprising three specializations: Indian Studies, Thai Studies, Chinese Studies) 3. Korean Studies 4. Japanese Studies
*Master's Programs: At the master's level, the Faculty provides specialized training in two areas: 1. Asian Studies 2. Japanese Studies
*Doctoral Programs: For those pursuing doctoral degrees, the Faculty offers three specializations: 1. Southeast Asia Studies 2. Chinese Studies 3. Japanese Studies
Students trained at the Faculty of Oriental Studies must complete mandatory English credits and specialized foreign language credits according to their field of study. Compared to other training institutions, students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies not only receive robust foreign language training but also possess a solid knowledge base in regional studies. Each student must finish required credits divided into five blocks of training programs. These blocks are designated from M1 to M5, encompassing both the general curriculum in Social Sciences and Humanities and regional studies knowledge. Specifically:
- M1, M2: General subjects prescribed by the VNU for the Social Sciences and Humanities block. - M3: Foundational subjects for the Faculty of Oriental Studies. - M4, M5: Specialized subjects about the Oriental Studies, equipping students with an overview of the Oriental region.
With this structure, the Faculty ensures that students, at every level of study, are not only equipped with general knowledge but also with specialized expertise in their chosen regional focus. These are the distinctive features of the Faculty of Oriental Studies.
Modern, updated, and systematic are the characteristics of the Faculty’s training program. In addition to standard textbooks, our Faculty continuously receives support in terms of textbooks and research materials from other universities in the region. The Faculty’s teaching staff comprises PhDs and Masters who were former students of the Faculty, trained abroad, and returned as experienced and knowledgeable lecturers.
Study Abroad Opportunities
Scholarships, study grants, and overseas internships are prominent attractions of the Faculty. The Faculty of Oriental Studies is one of the leading faculties in cooperation with prestigious universities in the region and worldwide. Each year, students of the Faculty receive scholarship grants from partner schools, embassies, or foreign businesses such as the Japan Foundation, Korea Foundation, Toshiba Foundation, etc.
Additionally, students of the Faculty participate in exchange programs, study abroad scholarships, and internships in advanced countries relevant to their training field. The Faculty's curricula are designed with many courses compatible with the training programs of other countries, enabling students to earn credits during exchange study periods.
